Pulau Aur (Aur Island) is situated almost directly east of the port town of Mersing, about 65 km into the South China Sea.  It is surrounded by three islets Dayang, Lang and Pinang.

The local population, mainly fishermen, is spread along the coastline in small kampongs of four to six buildings. There are neither roads nor vehicles on the island.  There are just a few simple resorts on the island providing basic accommodation to the hundreds of divers, snorkelers and anglers who visit the island every weekend.

The island is surrounded by warm crystal clear seas teaming with life.  The waters off Aur offer great diving sites; you can hover around coral gardens, explore wrecks, and if you are lucky spot whale sharks and mantas!  Historically, Aur has been known to Chinese sailors for hundreds of years.  Admiral Cheng Ho fleet has used Aur as a stopover to top up fresh water!

Most Aur resorts promises a rustic and idyllic setting with simple facilities but comfortable setting.  Whether you are an angler, diver or holiday maker, this is the place to get away from it all.

Donít miss to take a picture of the huge rock, shaped like an inverted Chinese junk.  Call it Elephant Rock (for its size) or Batu Berhala (historical name), whatever.  You canít miss it when you sail pass the channel between Dayang and Aur.

Best Time to Visit

The wet monsoon season starts yearly in November and ends in late-February.  Few would dare the rough seas in these months.  For the rest of the year, visit Aur with peace of mind.  Even if there are the occasional showers, you can still be quite sure to get plenty of sun.

Dive Sites

Aur Map

The surrounding waters around Dayang, Pinang and Lang offer many exciting dive sites.  Underwater pinnacles on the southeast side of Aur form one of the most challenging dive sites.  The pinnacles rise 30 m from the seabed to just about 10m from the water surface.

The other oft-dived site is none other than the well-known Rayner's Rock, just lying east of Dayang.  Whale sharks and manta rays have been sited year-in year-out.

The channel between Aur and Dayang also offers a few dive sites rich with coral reefs in relatively shallow waters, making them suitable dive sites for night diving.
