Pulau Tenggol diving guide
A small island in a marine park off Dungun, known for clear water, boulders and walls, and dived mainly from March to October.
About diving at Pulau Tenggol
Pulau Tenggol is a small, rugged island about 14 nautical miles off Kuala Dungun, roughly a 45-minute boat ride away. It has more than 20 dive sites and only a few resorts, so it stays far quieter than Redang or the Perhentians.
Many divers rate it among the best diving on Peninsular Malaysia: healthy coral, dramatic granite boulders and walls, and — in the right season — the chance of a whale shark passing by.
What makes Pulau Tenggol special
- Tokong TimurA small rocky islet off the island and Tenggol's most famous site, known for soft corals, barracuda, batfish and seasonal whale shark sightings.
- Boulders, walls and drop-offsTenggol's topography is more dramatic than most east-coast islands, with steeper walls and large boulder formations.
- Wrecks for wreck and technical diversSeveral vessels have been sunk deliberately in the area for diving, including some deeper wrecks suited to technical divers.
